U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Medal of Honor is Awarded
Fourth Consecutive Organ Donation Medal of Honor
For the Fourth consecutive year, the U.S. Department of Heath and Human Services (HHS) has awarded The University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, and our organ procurement partner, Gift of Hope, its Medal of Honor for Organ Donation. The presentations were made on October, 2009, during the Fifth National Learning Congress on Organ Donation and Transplantation. The Medal of Honor recognizes hospitals that achieve at least a 75% organ donation rate from eligible donor families in a consecutive 12-month period. In addition, HHS recognized the Medical Center and its Transplant program with a special award during the ceremony for posting an increase in transplantation greater than 20% for the 2008 calendar year.
