Francesco Maria Bianco, MD

Assistant Professor of Surgery.


Francesco Bianco, MD, earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine, “G. D’Annunzio” University in Chieti, Italy, where he also finished his general surgery residency and board certification. He completed a minimally invasive and robotic surgery fellowship at “Misericordia” Hospital in Grosseto, Italy as part of the largest program of robotic general surgery in the world. He has mentored under Dr. Pier Giulianotti for the past eight years. He has spent the last three years as Director of the Advanced Robotic Surgery Lab, at the University of Illinois where he has trained over 150 surgeons from around the world, in advanced robotic surgery techniques. He holds, concurrent titles as a faculty surgeon at the International School of Robotic Surgery, Grosseto Italy and Professor in the General Surgery residency program at the University G D’Annunzio in Chieti , Italy. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications and 3 book chapters related to minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery. His research interests are in development of new techniques and clinical validation in robotic surgery.
