ESOPHAGEAL TRANSIT STUDY

INDICATIONS:

Evaluate and quantitate esophageal motility.

PATIENT PREPARATIONS:

Overnight fast for adult patients.

RADIOPHARMACEUTICAL:

Aliquot of 15 mL of water containing 300-500 µCi of Tc-99m-sulfur colloid.

SCANNING TIMES:

30 minutes.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS/RATIONALE:

A) Calculate the Esophageal Transit Percent for each image using the equation:

B = counts for each sequential image

B) Functional image display: The sequence of images may be displayed in a single condensed image superimposed on a graph with time/successive images on the X-axis and the distribution of counts in the esophagus along the Y-axis.
