Student Lounge and Mailboxes
The CUPPA Student Lounge is located in the basement suite of CUPPA Hall. Vending machines are also located in the basement suite along with student mailboxes. CUPPA Hall Room 216, formerly the student lounge, will be used for PA and UPP PhD student workspace.
UPA Enters the Space Race
The UPA program is now located on the 3rd floor of CUPPA Hall. The director's office is located in room 316. The new space will also accommodate two computers for student use and work space for student projects.
ABFM in Chicago
Public Administration Associate Professor Rebecca Hendrick is chair of the Association of Budgeting and Financial Management (ABFM) for 2008. The PA Department will host ABFM's annual conference October 23-25, 2008 at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza. PA Training and Research Partnership with IL Student Assistance Commission
The Department of Public Administration has formed a new research and training partnership with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). ISAC will sponsor a two-year graduate research assistant to work with a faculty advisor to provide research and data analysis for ISAC programs including grants and scholarships, federal and alternative educational loans, and tuition programs. The first recipient of the ISAC Graduate Research Assistantship position is John Heroff, a first-year MPA student and Illinois native. Heroff will work with PA Assistant Professor Mary K. Feeney to provide research outputs that further ISAC's commitment to providing support services to Illinois students and the mission of the PA Department to advance the research and practice of public administration and policy in Chicago and Illinois.
Mossberger to Study Digital Excellence in Chicago
PA Associate Professor Karen Mossberger will be studying Digital Excellence in conjunction with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation to map Internet use across the 77 community areas in Chicago, to produce an analysis and report. Partners in the project include the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and the MacArthur Foundation.
Tim Goes to Taiwan
Survey Research Laboratory Director and PA Professor Tim Johnson will head to Taiwan in September for the 2008 International Conference on Survey Research Methodology at the Center for Survey Research, RCHSS, Academia Sinica,Taiwan where he will chair sessions and deliver one of three conference thematic speeches. Tim's thematic speech will provide an overview of what has been learned so far about cultural variability in survey-related behaviors and will outline a future research agenda for the subfield.
Voorhees Receives New Housing Study Grant
The Voorhees Center received a one year grant to produce a report for the National Council on Disabilities (NDC) to examine the state of housing the U.S. for people with disabilities and people who are aging. NDC is an independent federal agency composed of members appointed by the President of the U.S. by and with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate.

IRRPP's director search will continue into the academic year chaired by Dean Victoria Chou, UIC College of Education. UTC's director search will commence in October.

Glenda Garalli, MUPP '08 and current UPP PhD student, gave birth to a baby boy, Giulio, on Wednesday, August 27. Congratulations to Glenda and her husband, Tony!
Constance M. Dallas, PhD, RN Associate Professor, Department of Health Systems Science, College of Nursing, and Kevin Kumashiro, PhD, Associate Professor and Chair, Educational Policy Studies, College of Education began as interim codirectors of IRRPP (subject to approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees).
Emeritus Professor Siim Sööt is interim director of Urban Transportation Center (subject to University of Illinois Board of Trustee approval).
