This reception is also an opportunity for members participating in the APA - Illinois Chapter Mentoring program to meet with students. Appetizers will be offered along with a cash bar.

General Information:

The University of Illinois at Chicago Student Center East is located at 750 S. Halsted Street near the intersection of Halsted and Polk, two blocks south of the Eisenhower expressway (I-290). Illinois Room B is located in the 3rd Floor Conference Center.

Getting here by "L" or Metra

The UIC Student Center East is south of the UIC/Halsted stop on the Blue Line “L.” Exit at the east end of the platform and head south (towards the main campus) two blocks. The building is on the right-hand side just north of Polk Street. If traveling by Metra, both the Northwestern/Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station are within walking distance of UIC, or follow bus directions.

To get here by bus

  • You can take the number 8 Halsted bus to Polk and the bus will drop you off in front of Student Center East.
  • The number 60 Blue Island bus or the number 7 Harrison bus stops between Halsted and Morgan: walk east on Harrison, turn right on Halsted, and walk south for 2 blocks.

Getting here by car

From the north/O'Hare Airport: Take the Kennedy Expressway, I-90 east. Continue on the Kennedy to the Dan Ryan, I-90/94 east. Exit at Taylor. Turn right (west) and travel one block to the intersection of Taylor and Halsted. Turn right (north) onto Halsted and travel one-half block.

From the west: Take the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) to the Racine Avenue exit. Turn right (south) to Harrison Street. Turn left (east) onto Harrison and proceed to Halsted. Turn right (south) and go one block.

From the east: Take Harrison Street west to Halsted Street and turn (left) south into the campus.

From the south: Take the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/I-94) and exit on Roosevelt Road. Turn left (west) on Roosevelt Road to Halsted Street; then turn right (north) on Halsted Street to the campus.


There is a very limited on-street parking, 2-hour metered parking is available on Jackson and Monroe Streets (five blocks and seven blocks north, respectively). The cost of the meters is 25 cents per quarter hour. There is a UIC parking garage at Halsted and Polk ( just across the street from Student Center East. The cost will be around $6.25.
