In recent months, more and more people have started or are considering starting their own business, either in response to the current state of the job market or fulfilling a lifelong dream. Navigating the required paperwork takes time and knowing what is required is often daunting. Learn the basic elements of starting a successful business including an overview of the business plan. The presenter offers a realistic view of the requirements to start a business and the resources available to support a new venture. Topics include: business plan preparation, market research, legal structures, government regulations and an overview on financing needs.


The Presenter:
Victoria Gheorghe, Assistant Director
Center for Urban Business/ IL Small Business Development Center at UIC
Ms. Gheorghe is a business consulting and seminar training professional to small-and-medium-sized business owners and entrepreneurs. Gheorghe has worked for the Illinois Entrepreneurship Network continuously since 2000, during which time she has directed three Illinois Small Business Development Centers; created and implemented a number of business initiatives and assisted businesses in the acquisition of more than $12 million in financing. Gheorghe is a Certified Business Specialist by the Illinois Entrepreneurship & Small Business Growth Association and a certified instructor for NxLevel™; NCRC Financial Education; and Women’s Business Development Center’s Jumpstart Series. She’s also received certifications in areas including franchising, equity investment, and technology, among others. Gheorghe earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Management from the University of Texas at El Paso. Gheorghe's areas of expertise are in commercial and Small Business Association lending; financial and managerial accounting; small business management; franchising; market and regulatory research; and strategic planning.
