Jay M. Bahr MPA ’94
Upon last update I was serving as the Village Administrator in Waterville, OH. Most recently I taught American Government and Economics courses at Owens Community College in the Toledo area. Currently I am working on the Keith Wilkowski for Mayor Campaign in Toledo, running the HQ on Lagrange Street in the Heart of Toledo's Historic Polish Village. Keith was my Village Solicitor in Waterville. (9/05)
Terrence Moore MPA '94
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of Illinois, as well as graduate certificates from Florida Atlantic University and the University of Virginia. I am currently serving my fourth year with the city of Deerfield Beach, Florida. I am newly married (August, 1998) to the former Ms. Junko Jackson, an educator at Parkway Middle School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My career aspiration is to become City Manager, with hopes of eventually branching into private sector management. (1/99)
I was appointed by the City Council to the position of City Manager of Sebastian, Florida (population 20,000) on June 9, 1999. Before relocating to Sebastian, I served as Assistant City Manager of Deerfield Beach, Florida (population 60,000), situated along the Atlantic Ocean coast, northeast Broward County, Florida. A native of Chicago, Illinois, I hold both a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Masters of Public Administration degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as postgraduate certificates from Florida Atlantic University and the University of Virginia. Previous professional experience includes positions with municipal governments of Chicago and Peoria, Illinois. (1/00)
The City Council of the City of Las Cruces, New Mexico is pleased to announce the unanimous selection of Sebastian, Florida City Manager Terrence Moore to the position of City Manager of Las Cruces, New Mexico. As city manager, Mr. Moore will serve as the organization's chief executive officer, reporting to the elected City Council who functions as the agency's board of directors. The City of Las Cruces employs over 1,100 men and women in ten line departments, and has an annual total funds budget of nearly $200 million.
After nearly six years of service to the City of Sebastian, Mr. Moore's resignation from his current post becomes effective Friday, February 4, 2005 to accommodate his scheduled first day at Las Cruces City Hall Monday, February 14, 2005. He leaves Sebastian as a responsive and high performance local government entity, with a solid track record of implementing productive and progressive financial management, urban planning, project administration and grant procurement initiatives. Respectively, the community is now one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Florida. His leadership has also yielded recent accomplishments such as the construction and dedication of the recently completed ten acre Sebastian Municipal Complex, a project that notably features the community's first fully functional city hall building, as well as an expanded Sebastian Police Department headquarters facility. In addition, the City of Sebastian has enjoyed a successful citywide recovery from two major hurricanes that adversely impacted the community a few months ago. (1/05)

Kim Biederman MPA '02
I am now a Village Trustee for the Village of Niles. I was appointed last year and will be up for reelection in April of 2005. This has been a very rewarding job and I am able to use my education from my Public Administration masters degree to assist me in this role. (9/04)

Kevin Hogan MPA '91
worked for the U.S. Peace Corps from June 1998 through August 2000 as an advisor to a non-governmental organization in Tapa, Estonia. Robert decided to join the Peace Corps after working for the Illinois Department of Human Services, Office of Rehabilitation Services for fourteen years. (12/01)
Vada Southern MPA ’88
is attending Northern Baptist Theological Seminary as a part-time student while working as the assistant to the dean for recruitment and retention, within the College of Education at Northern Illinois University. (12/01)
James M. Graziano MPA '86
retired from IDOT on December 31, 1997, after thirty-six years. He is now working part time in transportation engineering in the private sector. In addition, James is a member of the Village Board of Zoning - Planning & Appeals in Cary, Illinois. James and his wife, Priscilla, work as co-directors of Happening In Christianity, a retreat program for young adults in the Rockford Diocese. (12/01)
Robert Romo MPA ’84
lives in Wilmette and is the manager of Chicago Operations for Schedin & Associates, a consulting subsidiary of Alliant Energy Resources. He works with large industrial, commercial and institutional customers on strategic energy planning issues. (12/01)
Peter Tsiolis MPA ’93
went on to law school at DePaul and received his Juris Doctorate in 1998. He was then hired by Gray & Associates Inc, a government relations firm that specializes in economic development. Peter also has a private entertainment law practice with several recording artists as clients. (12/01)
Caryn M. Stancik MPA ’96
works as a special assistant to the Cook County Board President John Stroger. Her work includes managing personnel, budget, and policy issues related to the Forest Preserve District of Cook County – the largest locally owned open space system in the U.S. In addition to these duties she regularly briefs county commissioners on issues where they are impacted or expected to cast a vote. Caryn has also been assigned the responsibility of managing and updating the history of Cook County Government – a project worked on in collaboration with Dr. Melvin Holli, a history professor at UIC, along with others. Caryn currently resides in Countryside with her husband of seven years and her two daughters, Sydney Elizabeth (3 yrs. old) and Charlie Nicole (1 yr. old). (12/01)

Jack H. Kolb MPA '85
I underwent a kidney and pancreas transplant in 1989. My wife and I had a son in 1992. Just this past year, my wife passed away. I am getting closer to God, by his grace. (1/00)
Deborah Chovancek MPA '99
I currently work for the McCormick Tribune Foundation in their Communities program. The program funds qualifying non-profit agencies that are recommended to us by some 40 foundation partners nationwide. The Foundation ranks in the top 15 nationwide in terms of annual giving, distributing over $84 million in grants in 1998. This year we hope to grant $100 million. In addition to the Communities program, the Foundation has Citizenship, Journalism, and Education programs. (1/00)
Marium Hussain MPA '97
Upon graduating from UIC with my MPA, I joined the US Peace Corps, serving in Cape Verde, West Africa, from 1997 to 1998. While in the Peace Corps, I worked as an NGO Community Development Mobilizer in Sao Filipe, Fogo - 1 of 9 islands. During my tour I authorized, tested and proved a project development tool titled Methodologies and Activities for Participatory Project Planning. Via this tool I trained and led 30 project team members in assessment, planning implementation and development of 3 projects: youth, education and tourism. The projects accomplished several goals including financing the first municipal library for $50,000; creating one youth group and one reading group; tourism surveys in 4 languages, and many others. Stephan Bitter MPA '93
After five years of working for the Cook County Circuit Court I decided to seek employment in the public accounting/auditing field. Through the gracious help of Jim Marek at CUPPA, I was able to land a job in the federal government with the Department of Transportation here in Chicago. Most of the work I do is auditing of department programs, rarely those that fall in maritime affairs. My wife and I just celebrated the second birthday of our daughter Olivia. I served as Councilman from 1991 to 1993 for North Brunswick Township, NJ - and ran unsuccessfully for Freeholder, Middlesex County, NJ in 1995. I have written two books, and am currently seeking publishers. My first book, Coryville: A Tale of Urban America, is set in Cincinnati, Ohio, during the summer of 1959 and discusses the impact of urban renewal on neighborhood values and traditions. And my second book, Touring America by Automobile in the Twenties, is an actual account of the rigors of travel in the Far West and Deep South before superhighways and the rise of the tourist industry. I have recently completed a novel, Coryville: A Tale of Urban America, that demonstrates the impact of urban renewal on neighborhood values and traditions set in Cincinnati during the summer of 1959. I am currently seeking a publisher. I served as Councilman, North Brunswick Township, NJ 1991-1993, and ran unsuccessfully for Middlesex Co., NJ Freeholder in 1995. I have been married 11 years to Sue Cook. I am currently between positions and seeking a challenging position in health care administration. (1/99)
