Title: Transportation Information Clearinghouse - Year One

Abstract:
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 legislated a requirement that welfare recipients work in order to receive benefits. However, the most promising job opportunities for these workers are often in locations and/or during periods of time when trips cannot be made conveniently using traditional providers. To address the temporal and spatial mismatch commonly experienced by job seekers in the region, the TIC project was established as an effort to identify non-traditional services that might provide needed links in home-work trips and could be utilized by employees and/or job seekers.
The TIC project is an on-going, two-year assessment of non-traditional transportation offered by private employers in an eight-county region. This seminar will address the background and importance of the project, as well as provide up-to-date results. The direction and possible scope of the project's second phase will also be discussed.
