Using TDM to Manage Traffic at Special Events
The Urban Transportation Center (UTC) is pleased to announce our next
professional development session offered via net conferencing.
Partnering with the National Center for Transit Research's National TDM
and Telework Clearinghouse at the University of South Florida and the
Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT), UTC will offer:
Date: October 15, 2003, Wednesday
Time: 1 PM
Location: Suite 340, Conference Room/412, S. Peoria/CUPPA Hall/Chicago, IL 60607.
Topic: Using TDM to Manage Traffic at Special Events
Abstract:
Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies have been applied
traditionally to solve problems associated with commute trips. The
principles of TDM however can be used, in conjunction with traffic
management strategies, to address congestion and parking concerns at
venues that draw large number of spectators such as sporting,
entertainment, and other special events.
The "Using TDM to Manage Traffic at Special Events" netconference will
provide participants with an understanding of how TDM principles can apply
to managing travel at event venues, the relationship of TDM and traffic
management measures, and examples of where TDM/traffic management
strategies have been used to manage traffic and parking effectively.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does a net conference work?
Participants hear the audio portion via a telephone call and
simultaneously view the PowerPoint presentation via
Internet. Participants will be able to ask questions of the presenters
and express opinions via instant polling, all without leaving their area!
Why is UTC co-hosting this event?
We believe this net conference will expand Professional Development
opportunities to Chicagoland transit practitioners, beyond those able to
attend PD seminars at conferences. UTC, ACT, and NCTR are teaming up to
provide additional training seminars and provide a means of reaching
interested parties who are unable to travel and/or have niche
interests. We'd welcome your thoughts on its value and effectiveness as
well as suggestions for future topics.
What does it cost?
There is no charge to participate. NCTR National TDM and Telework
Clearinghouse is making the net conference service available to
UTC. ACT's Professional Development Committee is funding the 1-800
charges of the net conference.
