Gangs in the Global City
is an edited volume looking at how globalization has affected
gangs. It brings together leading scholars in gang research
with important figures in studies on cities and social
theory. The book presents a range of critiques of traditional
criminological theory on gangs. John Hagedorn's talk will focus on
gangs and the re-division of space in Chicago.
John
M. Hagedorn is a Senior Research Fellow at the
Great Cities Institute and Associate Professor of Criminal
Justice at the University of Illinois, Chicago. His forthcoming
book, A World of Gangs: Armed Young Men and
Gangsta Rap Culture further develops the
themes began in Gangs in the Global City. Gangs
in the Global City will be available for
purchase and signing.
