The public accountability of nonprofits has increased dramatically in the last three years. With recent high-profile scandals, nonprofit organizations are under significant scrutiny. Nonprofits should leverage proven best practices stemming from Sarbanes-Oxley implementation in teh corporate world in order to promote a solid infrastructure and to create a "platinum" standard of operations and governance. Practical tips for leveraging the power and value of SOX requirements within nonprofit organizations will be provided.

Dottie Johnson, CPA and Director of Consulting Services for Lumity, has more than twenty-five years of nonprofit experience, with personal expertise in accounting and financial management for nonprofit organizations. Ms. Johnson is an active member of the Illinois Society of CPA and of the Nonprofit Education Sub-Committee and the Alliance for Nonprofit Management.
