Giving to GCI

Giving to GCI

GCI is one of the most distinctive university institutes in the country. Most university research centers are narrowly focused on a single topic and on generating research income for their campuses. At GCI, we are equally focused on both our brand of engaged research on urban issues, and on seeding and supporting engaged urban research across the university. This focus enables us to study urban regions such as Chicago and engage solutions that help to improve the quality of life for all residents of urban areas.

How GCI Benefits from Your Gift

We measure success both in our research products and in the community partnerships seeded and stimulated by our support. Gifts to GCI are an investment that pays off in many ways. Here are a few examples of what your dollar to GCI supports and generates:

  • Engaged research on a wide range of topics:
    • community economic development
    • environmental sustainability
    • affordable housing
    • education
    • the healthy city
    • practices of good governance
    • international research on cities and regions

  • Programs and partnerships with community organizations
    • Assistance to community organizations through the UIC Neighborhoods Initiative program
    • Training and capacity-building for nonprofits through the professional education program
    • Partnerships with youth-serving organizations through our Vernon Jarrett Senior Fellow program
    • Support the high-impact research of two affiliate centers the Center for Urban Economic Development (CUED) and the Nathalie P. Voorhees Center for Neighborhood and Community Improvement

  • Support that generates engaged urban research
    • Stimulate high level engaged research through the Great Cities Faculty Scholars and the Great Cities Faculty Seed Programs
