Project
Description
Communities R.A.P. was a seven-year, two-phase, federally
funded program, that addressed teen pregnancy and prevention from
a youth development perspective. The goal was to build awareness
and help reduce early and subsequent pregnancies by incorporating
successful programs into different sectors of the community. The
initiative targeted three Chicago communities, the Near West side,
Humboldt Park and West Town. Phase II of this initiative (1997-2002),
focused on identifying and implementing community action strategies
that address needs identified in the initial years of the project.
The strategies included: Community Mobilization; Providing/promoting
Parent Education and Skill Building; Providing/promoting Sex Education
and Life Skill Development for Youth; Social Marketing; Job Training
and Employment; Promoting Educational and Social Competence; Establishing
linkages to Adolescent Health Services; Policy and Advocacy.
