Description
This partnership prepared students from public high schools
in Pilsen and the Near West Side for entry level jobs upon graduation.
Programs emphasized marketable skill development and training
at the Richard T. Crane High School on the Near West Side and
at Benito Juarez High School in Pilsen. Importantly, UIC secured
a commitment from one of Chicago's top corporate leaders, Montgomery
Ward & Co., to create entry-level jobs and to secure the participation
of other corporations. The program goals were to create 30 to
50 jobs annually for graduates of Crane and Juarez High Schools,
as well as Malcolm X College, which is also located on the Near
West Side.
