Project
Description
This was an effort to more closely link UIC with residents
and businesses in the adjacent area. The UIC Center for Urban
Economic Development and the UIC Department of Economics initiated
a study to determine how job opportunities and contracts at UIC
can be better linked to workers and businesses in Pilsen and the
Near West Side. As a result of the study, mechanisms were established
to channel information about job openings to community-based job
developers, who may refer residents to the university to apply
for jobs for which they qualify. Information on UIC's procurement
process was also distributed to area businesses and community
development corporations.
