Description
The New Directions grant addresses two urgent needs currently facing residents from the North Lawndale community, which is part of the West Empowerment Zone/Enterprising Communities Cluster: the need for leaner, stronger, more savvy community organizations to serve the many low-income residents; and 2) need for affordable and accessible housing in North Lawndale.
Impact on UIC: Increased involvement of UIC faculty, staff, and students and an increase of courses will be taught in COPC-related activities: seven more UIC faculty/staff, approximately 300 additional students, and two courses a studio course in the Communications Department and another course, a research assistant seminar, through the UIC Neighborhoods Initiative, respectively.
