GCI Comparative Urbanisms Lecture Series
"Marketplaces: Prospects for Social, Economic, and Political Development"
Professor, Urban and Regional Planning
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
Dr. Morales will provide an overview of the scholarly literature on markets and marketplaces, starting with their historical inception and evolution in the United States. After addressing their political, economic, social, and health dimensions, he will provide suggestions for further basic and applied research, including a discussion of how marketplaces enhance policy scholarship. He argues that they were once critical tools of public policy and should be so again.
