For Citizens…

IPCE creates helpful informational resources for citizens regarding how government works and should work, how to better connect with government services and leaders, and how and where to participate in discussion, deliberation, and debate on current policy issue.

CivicSource Web Portal – a rich media-based resource with information on government leaders and services, community and local events, and opportunities to connect with policy organizations and other citizens.

Public forums – in person forums such as town halls, talks with invited speakers, as well as online forums and discussions.

Workshops/Policy Primers --  help citizens learn about complex policy issues and their inherent tradeoffs, as well as useful tools for understanding and navigating the policy-making process.

For Leaders and Emerging Leaders…

Leaders and emerging leaders will find that IPCE offers useful resources that help them make better decisions and better represent their constituents.  Certainly, leaders need to be fully informed on key policy issues and benefit from engaging citizens in vigorous discussion and deliberation and IPCE creates space for such discussions.

Training – IPCE partners with the Institute for Government and Public Affairs and other civic and nonprofit organizations to provide training for elected officials and government employees on technology and key policy issues.

For Scholars…

Research -- IPCE conducts and supports research on civic engagement practice and theory, with a particular emphasis on the use of technology to enhance and inform citizen engagement in our democracy, as well as to enhance and inform government decision making and service delivery.

Discourse -- IPCE supports the Civic Engagement Discourse fund award annually for civic engagement events that facilitate public discourse on policy issues, or the policy implications of university research.

For Students…

The Urban Public Policy Fellows Program – offers internship placements that expose students to policy issues with civic and policy organizations, nonprofit groups, and government offices. While serving at these organizations Students also participate in a seminar, and give a research presentation based on their experience. The placement comes with a paid stipend. Selection is based on a competitive application.

IPCE Civic Engagement Days – Targeted for high school youth, CE days is a 2-day workshop on how the legislative policy-making process works. High school students travel to UIC campus for sessions featuring videos, guest speakers, mock policy-making, debates and group presentations.

Graduate student assistantships – IPCE hires UIC graduate student research assistant to work in its office. Announcements regarding these positions will be made here as they come available.
