This presentation will summarize the most relevant findings of a multidisciplinary research study that sought to capture the socio-economic conditions (i.e. housing tenure, educational attainment, poverty levels, etc.) of the Puerto Rican community after the Census 2010 was released. The report compares Puerto Ricans in the Chicago Area Metro with Puerto Ricans in other metro areas; in addition it compares Puerto Ricans, within the city boundaries, to Mexicans, African Americans, and Whites. Because about 50% of Puerto Ricans in the city of Chicago live in a concentrated geographical areas, we will also focus on this geography to discuss various aspects that affect community building: housing, economic development, education, health and crime.
