Although incidence rates of skin cancer are lower among Blacks and Hispanics compared with White non-Hispanics, ethnic minorities in the United States are more likely to experience poorer outcomes. This is caused by minorities' more advanced stage at presentation, the result of several potential reasons, including: physician and patient misperceptions of risk, low index of suspicion, and poor preventive care. This talk will focus on Dr. Hernandez's work on developing physician education and culturally appropriate public outreach on skin cancer in skin of color.
