When, for workshop:           Thursday, March 8 and Friday, March 9, 2001, in Chicago, Illinois

Where, for workshop:          Chicago Hilton and Towers, 720 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.  (877) 865-5320, toll free.
                                              (Downtown Chicago near the lakefront, museums, etc.)

How much, for hotel:            $149 room workshop rate.
                                              ($149 covers both  Wednesday 3/7 and 3/8 sleepovers, assumes departure is 3/9/00.)

How much, for workshop:    $125, invited participants will be notified how to make payment.

Who can attend:                   Approximately 70 persons, including presenters of papers, by invitation.
                                              Invitations will be issued based upon a submitted paper, or by
                                              direct initiative of the program co-chairs.

What will they do?               Begin the preparation of a working document for NSF on electronic government,
                                              with a focus on urban and regional applications.

When, for papers:                Papers Due                        01/05/01
                                              Acceptance Notice            01/29/01
                                              Final Copy Due                 02/28/01

How, for papers:                  Papers accepted in Word or PDF format.  Submit 8 ~12 page
                                              (double-spaced with brief references at the end) discussion
                                              paper addressing one of the four topic areas.
                                              The paper should make a case for the diffusion and use
                                              of an application, originality of the e-gov idea,
                                              or implications of legal/critical issues.

What, are the GCUs?          The Great Cities Universities Consortium is comprised of seventeen larger urban
                                              universities, and is committed to engaged research, teaching, and public
                                              service with their surrounding neighborhoods, regions, and governments.  The
                                              name "Great Cities" was borrowed from the Great Cities Initiative at the University
                                              of Illinois at Chicago.  Members of the consortium are:
