Title: Key Factors Affecting the Results of Environmental Justice Analysis

By: Dr. Adjo Amekudzi
    Assistant Professor
School of Civil and Environmental Engineering
    Georgia Institute of Technology

Dr. Adjo Amekudzi will present a seminar on the Key Factors Affecting the
Results of Environmental Justice Analysis.  In 1994, a federal executive
order required all federal agencies to make Environmental Justice part of
their mission, by addressing the adverse human health and environmental
effects of their programs, policies and activities on marginal
populations.  Subsequent to this order, a number states, including
Georgia, have proposed or passed EJ legislation and begun to develop
databases and analysis tools to assess the EJ impacts of their activities.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is enhancing its
Multi-Modal Transportation Planning Tool (MTPT) to perform environmental
justice analysis.  This decision support tool evaluates potential
improvements for multi-modal facilities in the state of Georgia, including
transit, passenger and commuter rail, aviation, bicycle and highway
facilities.  In this seminar, Dr. Amekudzi will give an overview of the
legal and regulatory framework for environmental justice and discuss the
key factors affecting the results of environmental justice analysis.

Dr. Amekudzi is Assistant Professor at the School of Civil & Environmental
Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.  She earned her Doctorate
degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon
University, and her Bachelors and Masters from Stanford University and
Florida International University, respectively.  Her research focuses on
the use of quantitative methods for improving the performance and
sustainability of civil infrastructure systems.
