Title: ELECTRONIC ROAD PRICING: POLICY AND TECHNOLOGY FACTORS

By: Dr. Ata Khan
Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department
    Carelton University
    Ottawa, Canada.

Abstract

Urban road networks around the world are experiencing serious congestion
due to increasing vehicular traffic competing for the use of limited
roadway capacity. Some of the consequences are very low travel speed, high
delay, inefficient use of infrastructure, waste of nonrenewable energy,
and high emissions. This seminar will describe the role of electronic road
pricing (ERP) in managing travel demand. Policy and technology factors
will be covered. Selected results of Singapore's ERP scheme will be
highlighted.
