Abstract:
Micro-Simulation is an analytical method for analyzing traffic operational
conditions based on simulation models, through which a real-world traffic
environment can be replicated in a computer environment. Each vehicle
represents a different vehicle and driver type. Each traced vehicle
responds to roadway geometry and traffic control devices.
This technique has been receiving much attention in the transportation
community. In this seminar, we will be discussing fundamental basics
and
practical issues such as efficient model development and extensive
input
data preparation. In addition, we will be comparing simulation
methodologies with the traditional Highway Capacity Manual. Large-scale
real-world applications will also be presented.
Speaker:
Dr. Do Nam, Principal Transportation Engineer at Parsons Transportation
Group in the Chicago office, is a Professional Engineer with over 15
years
of consulting and research experience. He has been involved in many
projects concerning Transportation Planning, Traffic Engineering and
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). He received his Master's
degree
in Civil Engineering from University of Iowa and his Ph.D. degree from
Virginia Tech. Dr. Nam has published several technical journal papers
on
traffic flow models. He is also a member of ITE and serves on the TRB
A1D06 Committee.
