The Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) is in the second year of a five-year initiative to establish a long-term economic development strategy for the State of Illinois. In each region, local elected officials, representatives from local and regional economic development organizations, the business community, service delivery providers, and other organizations are working to build a sound economic development infrastructure for Illinois.
Last year, meetings were held across the state to identify key issues and economic development priorities for each region. Building on this work, participants at the 2001 meetings will develop specific recommendations for legislative, administrative, and programmatic actions to address these issues. These recommendations will be incorporated into the report to be presented to the General Assembly, as mandated by the State and Regional Development Strategy Act (1999).
As project partner for the Northeast Region, the University of Illinois at Chicago Center for Urban Economic Development (UIC/CUED) has arranged four opportunities to participate in the 2001 discussion. All sessions are from 8:30-12:00 followed by an optional lunch discussion from 12:00-1:00.
