TOWARD SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION AT UIC: A SYMPOSIUM

Thursday, November 1, 2001, 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Chicago Rooms A & B, Chicago Illini Union, 828 South Wolcott Avenue

Each weekday, several tens of thousands of students, faculty, staff, patients and visitors (as well as delivery vehicles) travel to and from UIC, as well as on and between the East and West Campuses. How these trips are made - bike, car, public transit, walk - have significant societal implications for traffic congestion, air quality, energy consumption, public safety and monetary cost to individuals.

Recently, UIC has taken steps to encourage the use of public transit (CTA's UPASS and RTA's Transit Benefit Programs), which has eased the financial burdens of those already using transit and encouraged car drivers to switch to transit. Now it is the time to take additional steps in a coordinated manner to improve parking, public safety, disabled accessibility, biking, ride-sharing and public and shuttle bus services.

Please join us for a half-day meeting of faculty, staff and students to examine and discuss what we as individuals, and UIC as an institution located in the Chicago region, should be doing to improve air quality, conserve energy and reduce traffic congestion.

To register for this free Symposium, please contact Cynthia Davis in the Campus Parking Office at 312/413-5800 or cldavis@uic.edu. Lunches are provided at no charge for registered participants only. A vegetarian lunch is available upon request. Early registration is suggested to ensure your reservation.

Program Highlights
