GIS Day is a grassroots event that formalizes the practice ofgeographic information systems (GIS) users and vendors of openingtheir doors to schools, businesses, and the general public toshowcase real-world applications of this important technology. Theevent is principally sponsored by the National Geographic Society,the Association of American Geographers, University Consortiumfor Geographic Information Science, the United States GeologicalSurvey, The Library of Congress, Sun Microsystems, and ESRI--http://www.gisday.com/

Following the initiative of the UIC Provost's GIS Task Force, on behalf  ofits chair, Prof. John Shuler, and since, because of the Provost's GIS TaskForce, UIC is now a member of the University Consortium of GeographicInformation Science--http://www.uic.edu/cuppa/ucgishttp://www.ucgis.org--the UIC College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) is hostingon behalf of our UIC colleagues a brown bag lunch on the topic,"Introducing GIS Software at UIC" on Wednesday, 11/14/01, in Rm. 110, CUPPAHall, 412 S. Peoria, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.All those interested in learning about GIS software available on the UIC campus are welcome to attend.Those UIC scholars, whether student, faculty, or staff, who wish toshowcase their own GIS work at this brown bag will get a _free_ lunch!
