Response to Hurricane Katrina
All UPP Students-
By now, you have heard the news and seen the pictures of the devastation
caused in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. The entire city has been evacuated,
and parts of the city are under more than 20 feet of water.
As urban planners, we have a vested interest in not only the human tragedy
of this natural disaster, but in the massive undertaking at hand in saving
one of the jewels of American culture.
If you are interested in donating to the relief effort, UPPSA is accepting
donations to the American Red Cross in the locked mailbox in the UPPSA
cubical on the 2nd floor of CUPPAH. Checks are best; please make yours
out to the American Red Cross, and indicate in the memo line to which
fund you want to donate (your Local Red Cross Chapter, Hurricane 2005
Relief Fund, Disaster Relief Fund, International Response Fund, Measles
Initiative, Military Services, Blood and Biomedical Services, or Other)
and place it in an envelope in the mailbox. We will forward the money
to the ARC on behalf of UPP students.
Alternatively, consider donating to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
online at: http://arc.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=ntld_main
More information is available on the web at:
http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html
Our thoughts and best hopes are with the citizens and the city of New
Orleans, as well as the many others affected by the hurricane.
Respectfully,
Noel Henderson-James
President, UPPSA
