College Forum - Budget Briefing by the Dean

There will be a College Forum open to all faculty, staff, and students at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 4 in Room 110 at which the Dean will provide a briefing about the prospects for CUPPA in the period FY06-FY09. All Deans at UIC are required to give a formal budget presentation to the provost and the campus leadership each February. In line with the spirit of open government that characterizes CUPPA, Dean Hambleton would like to share that same briefing with faculty, staff, and students and receive comments and questions.


Alumni Association on Big Boxes

CUPPA Alumni will host the first of their Opposing Viewpoints Spring Speakers Series on March 8, 2005 at Prairie Avenue Bookshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Moderator Lee Brown of Teska Associates will lead the discussion with Enrique Salgado, executive director of the Division Street Business Development Association, Ellen Shepard, executive director of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, and Fred J. Murray, director of leasing for the Harlem Irving Companies, Inc. General admission is $10, UI Alumni Association members $5, and students free. RSVP to Andrea Traudt, atraud2@uic.edu .


CUED Releases January "Working Chicago"

The January issue of CUED's newest electronic newsletter "Working Chicago" is available at www.uic.edu/cuppa/uicued/. The January issue featured articles on Illinois' minimum wage increase, the visit of one of India's labor leaders, and other important articles in economic and workforce development. Generous support for the publication was provided by the Rockefeller Foundation.


A Million Hits

GCI Fellow John Hagedorn's website, gangresearch.net, logged over one million hits recently. The site is "dedicated to providing quality research on gangs to students, academics, public officials, the media, and the general public."


The Institute for Research on Race & Public Policy: Past, Present, & Future

IRRPP will host an open forum on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. in room 110.


PA Professor Hendrick Serves on Multiple Boards

Rebecca Hendrick was recently appointed to the editorial board of the American Review of Public Administration and to the Illinois Government Advisory Board (of the Comptroller).


Pagano Keynotes Conference

PA Director Michael Pagano will keynote the Midwest Regional Public Finance Conference at Wichita State University on February 24.
