Safety, Security, and Building Conditions March 16 Meeting Summary

  • CUPPA maintenance list is being estimated and will include painting and window cleaning for each unit spread over a several year period.
  • ADH elevator (floors ground through 5) is now up and running and can be used on days when CUPPA elevator is out, but the front door of ADH is being kept locked for security purposes until the School of Art and Design moves back into the building, expected summer, 2006.
  • CUPPA signage project is underway with directories being finalized and design of signs to be decided.
  • The Dean’s office copy room will move from Room 160 to Room 145 as soon as the painting is completed.
  • Questions regarding the committee may be directed to your unit representative or to Kathryn Quealy, Visiting Assistant to the Associate Dean, 3-8088.

17 MUPPS Visit New Orleans
With funding from UPP, 17 MUPPs will be spending Spring Break in the New Orleans area assisting with clean-up and rebuilding efforts and offering services in planning to various public agencies engaged in the process.

Professors Mastracci and Thompson Win Best Article
PA faculty members Sharon Mastracci and Jim Thompson won the best article award for an article published in Review of Public Personnel Administration. "Non-Standard Work Relations in the Public Sector: Trends and Issues" appeared in the December 2005 issue.

IL Dept. of Revenue Grant to PA
The Illinois Department of Revenue has awarded a grant to Public Administration for the purpose of hiring a research assistant to work on revenue forecasting for the state.

CHDO Education at GCI
The Great Cities Institute is partnering with Training and Development Associates, Inc, (TDA), a North Carolina consulting firm, to deliver a five course program aimed at improving management capacity for
community housing development organizations (CHDOs) throughout the United States. TDA received funding for this program through a multi-year HUD grant to provide management and housing development training to CHDOs as part of the HUD CHDO certification process.

Housing Outlook 2010 Report
The Voorhees Center will participate in the official release of the report, Housing Outlook 2010, on March 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Charter One Bank. Please contact Yittayih Zelalem or Martha Glas if you would like to attend the launch.

SRL Presents Sudman and Ferber Awards
On March 31, SRL will present the the fifth annual Ferber and Sudman Dissertation Awards to Ruchi Bhanot, Kathryn Branscomb, and Dustin Wood. The awards are named after the eminent scholars, Robert Ferber and Seymour Sudman, in the field of survey research from the University
of Illinois and are presented to students who have demonstrated excellence in survey research as part of a doctoral dissertation.

COMINGS AND GOINGS:

Meredith Rubin joined the staff of SRL in Chicago. Sowmaya Anand joined the staff of SRL in Urbana as a new senior project coordinator.

The CUPPA Alumni Association will host the following panel discussions: April 6 - Get a Grip on Your Neighborhood: Impacts on Real Estate Development. Location: National City Bank, 1 North Franklin, 3rd Floor, Chicago. April 18 - Case Studies: Leveraging Community Involvement. Location: Center for Neighborhood Technology, 2125 West North Avenue, Chicago. Each program begins at 5:30 p.m. with registration and networking reception including light appetizers and beverages followed by the panel discussion from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. General Admission: $10.00; U of I Alumni Association members: $5.00 (Join the UI Alumni Association when registering for this event and pay just $5.00); Students: $3.00 with UIC I.D.
