March CUPPA Briefing

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

A visit from the Voorhees family
Scott Voorhees and Susan Voorhees Hunt, two of the children of Alan Voorhees, founder of the Nathalie P. Voorhees Center for Neighborhood and Community Improvement, will be visiting CUPPA and the Voorhees Center on April 20 in preparation for the April 21 "Evening at UIC" event during which their father will receive a special posthumous recognition for his support of the Center. As Alan passed away at the age of 83 in December 2005, this event and visit will provide a special opportunity to celebrate his generosity and share its importance with his family.

UTC PhD students awarded scholarships
Liang Long, PhD candidate in Civil and Materials Engineering and graduate assistant in the Urban Transportation Center (UTC) has been awarded a 2007 Illinois Section of the American Society for Civil Engineers scholarship. Wenjing Pu, also a candidate in Civil and Materials Engineering and an associate in UTC, has received a 2007 Illinois Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers scholarship. Our congratulations!

SRL hosts Fifth International Workshop on Comparative Survey Design and Implementation
Staff members in the Survey Research Laboratory (SRL) worked tirelessly with members of The International Workshop on Comparative Survey Design and Implementation (CSDI) to bring together a successful Fifth International Workshop on Comparative Survey Design from March 29 to 31 on the UIC campus, providing a forum and platform for researchers involved in research requiring comparative survey methods.

COMINGS and GOINGS:

Yingling Fan, Visiting Assistant Professor, Urban Planning and Policy Yingling Fan, who is currently completing her PhD degree in City and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will join the CUPPA faculty in August 2007 as Visiting Assistant Professor in Urban Planning and Policy (UPP), pending Board of Trustees Approval. Yingling, who obtained her first degree in Transportation Engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, specializes in transportation and land use and will hold a Visiting Research Assistant Professorship at the Urban Transportation Center (UTC). We look forward to welcoming her to CUPPA.
