UIC TURNS 30; FORMER UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS PRESIDENT
COMMENTS ON CUPPA'S ROLE IN MERGER

Our university, UIC, as we know it, turned 30 on September 1. That date marks
the creation of the University of Illinois at Chicago with the merger of the University
of Illinois at Chicago Circle and the University of Illinois Medical Center.

University of Illinois President Emeritus Stanley Ikenberry, who spearheaded this
merger, recently noted CUPPA's contribution in the UIC Alumni Magazine. "I
believe the Great Cities Commitment (now Great Cities Institute) and the linkage with
city government that then-UIC Chancellor Jim Stukel put in place helped us immensely.
All of that built a large reservoir of support that serves the campus and the University
well today."
