PA Recognized as Top-Ranked Program

UIC's Public Administration Program is ranked 2nd among public universities and 8th overall in a nationwide study of public administration and policy programs, according to results of The 2007 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. The ranking is based on faculty productivity in the areas of publications, honors and awards, and the receipt of federal grant money. Construction of the Faculty Pagano QuoteScholarly Productivity (FSP) Index is a collaborative effort between SUNY Stony Brook and Academic Analytics and relies solely on empirical data with regards to the progress and accomplishments of the faculty from each of the 375 institutions in the nation from which data were collected.

This latest achievement complements US News and World Report's 2004 ranking of the PA program as 6th in the country for city management and 31st for public financial management.

So what do these accomplishments mean to current and prospective students?

The ranking is based on faculty publications and grant awards. According to Interim Dean Dr. Michael Pagano, "this means that students will be exposed to and instructed by faculty who are participating in contemporary and compelling research and who continue to do so because of the funding they receive. Students will also be advised by this same group of scholars who are not only aware of the current theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of public administration, but who are creating that knowledge in their daily work. Through collaboration and assistantships, students will have opportunities to be directly involved in some of this research. Upon completion of the degree, students will also be recognized as a graduate of a nationally ranked program which will contribute to their marketability in the field on both a professional and academic level."

The Public Administration faculty and staff are committed to delivering our students the best skills, knowledge, and understanding of public management. We invite you to browse the website and contact us. Please also feel free to visit the UIC News website for information about other programs at UIC that were recognized for achievement in this index.
