Public Administration

Welcome to the Department of Public Administration (PA), located within the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Ranked 2nd among public universities and 8th overall in a nationwide study of public administration and policy programs, the Department of Public Administration capitalizes on the strength and resources of the University of Illinois as a research I institution. The department features renowned faculty and the dynamic setting of Chicago. We are nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Reports in city management (6th) and financial management (21st). Members of faculty have extensive experience working in government, and are currently engaged in the community and beyond through consulting and research. The Chicago region is home to many state and federal agencies, major nonprofit organizations, and more local governments than any other metropolitan area in the country - providing resources for study, internships, capstones, and employment. The university is ideally located, in a thriving and diverse area just outside the Loop.

Mission
The mission of the public administration program is to advance the practice of and research on public administration and policy in the urban area of Chicago and beyond through providing an excellent graduate professional education, disseminating scholarly and engaged research to relevant audiences at home and abroad, and contributing service to public and professional communities.
