FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do the e-Government online courses work?
The online e-Government certificate courses rely on asynchronous discussion and collaboration as the principle form of communication. Via a Web-based system (Blackboard), class members interact extensively with one another and the instructor. Students participate anytime day or night, when their schedules allow, while still meeting due dates for assignments.

Am I required to come to the University at any time?
Currently, all of the certificate courses are conducted entirely online and do not require campus visits. This course may require one or more campus visits.

When are e-Government courses offered?
The e-Government course schedule follows the Academic Calendar set forth by the University of Illinois at Chicago. Courses are offered in the fall, spring and summer semesters.

When should I log in to the courses?
There are no specific times or days of the week students must log in; however, students are expected to complete assignments by the due dates specified in the course syllabus. Students are encouraged to log into Blackboard at least four times per week to stay on track.

How long does it take to complete the e-Government certificate program?
To obtain the e-Government certificate, each participant must complete three of the five courses for a total of 12 credit hours. This certificate can be earned in three semesters, depending on course scheduling and the number of courses registered for by a student.

When do I need to apply to the certificate program?
See the Admissions page of our Web site for application deadlines.

What is the tuition for the e-Government Certificate program?
Online programs are assessed UIC's e-Tuition, which is a single-rate, per credit hour tuition. See the Admissions page of our Web site for current tuition information.
NOTE: Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice any time prior to the first day of instruction.

Do I have to take the GRE?
Matriculation into the e-Government certificate program does not require a GRE score from potential students. View the Admissions page of our Web site for the e-Government certificate requirements.

When will I earn my certificate?
Certificate students must complete the three certificate courses and maintain a 3.00 (out of 4.00) cumulative grade point average. Additionally, students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all courses.
