Curriculum Vitae
Professor Yonghong Wu's research primarily focuses on the interconnections among public finance, technological innovation, and economic development. He is interested in the two important decisions of state and local government finance: 1) fiscal incentives that encourage innovative efforts for economic development, and 2) revenues from new services that are enabled by technological advancement. Dr. Wu has been interested in the role state government plays to foster economic growth through encouraging business investment in research and development (R&D). His article in Journal of Policy Analysis and Management examines how the state R&D tax credits promote additional industrial R&D expenditure in the states. In addition, Dr. Wu has been working on a project that deals with local communications taxation. The project examines the reliance of local governments on revenues from taxes on communications services.
Dr. Wu's research agenda has been extended in both state & local public finance and science & technology policy - two of his fields of expertise. On public finance side, he has been investigating strategic interactions among municipal governments in fiscal policymaking. His research explores the underlying mechanisms as well as dimensional issues in property tax competition among municipal governments. On technology policy side, his current research is to evaluate the effects of NSF's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) on research capacity and academic competitiveness of the EPSCoR states.
