UIC Department of Public Administration Doctoral Program ranked by National Research Council
The National Research Council released rankings of nearly 5,000 university doctoral programs in September of 2010. Two separate types of ranking were created: the S ranking and the R ranking. The NRC produced ranges rather than singular rankings because the results of such undertakings (ranking academic programs) are not as precise as a single value might indicate.
R-rankings: The R-rankings were created based on what faculty members rated as the most important aspects of a PhD program. The characteristics were then assigned weights and the individual academic programs were graded in each of the characteristics. They were then assigned a ranking range rather than a specific ranking value.
UIC PhD Program in Public Administration R rankings: 31st- 47th
As part of the S-rankings, ranking ranges for specific characteristics were also created. The PhD Program in Public Administration was ranked within the following ranges:
S-rankings: The S-rankings were created based (indirectly) on a survey of faculty members asking them for their opinion about individual programs. Like the R-rankings, a specific number is not assigned, and a range is provided instead.
UIC PhD Program in Public Administration S rankings: 21st – 32nd
The National Research Council is part of a larger private nonprofit organization (the National Academies) that produces policy recommendations under the auspices of a presidential charter. The full rankings report can be accessed at http://www.nap.edu/rdp/
