About E-Learning

Read the student testimonials below to hear how people have benefited from online learning.

"I decided to pursue a certificate in nonprofit management to advance my skills in my career. I selected UIC because I enjoy taking online courses.
The same course was offered through Goucher College (in my area) but I
decided on this course instead. The instructors were great. I got more
feedback and direction in these courses than any of the courses that I have
taken for credits. I enjoyed "meeting" others from around the world and
realizing that everyone has a lot of the same issues to deal with."

-Michelle Stratmeyer, Manager, Foundation Operations, Parkville, Maryland

"The program gave me hands on, interactive learning opportunities that were
real experiences. I appreciated being able to work and respond anytime. I
will be a benefit to any organization I work for as a result of this program. I learned more about networking with other organizations and building on the resources available. Each instructor was well prepared, responded in a timely manner, used the technology efficiently, and promoted creativity among the classmates.Participating in the Nonprofit Management program was a fulfilling experience that I will value for a very long time."

- Patt Kroll

"I travel frequently - and knew that my only real option was online learning. I did a Google search and found 5-6 options. I asked for more info from each -- and UIC was the only one that followed up with me to make sure that I got everything I needed. (Check one for great customer service.) I did some checking and learned that you have a strong reputation in this arena. (Check two for references.) Your sign-up process was simple, straight-forward - and error free. (Check three for well-organized.) I learned so much during my course work.

"The online nonprofit financial management [course] has helped me oversee
the business manager with greater understanding, and to inform the board of
directors about financial matters more thoroughly. I selected UIC because
it was one of the only schools I could locate that offered this course online. My instructor, Dottie, was helpful in her oversight and discreet, diplomatic and professional criticism. She was highly qualified and shared her knowledge freely.I also learned from my very qualified "classmates" - all people holding various positions in nonprofits. I liked taking an online course and the flexibility it affords. I have a bruising work schedule, and this flexibility was needed."

"I love the online classes because of the flexibility of the time. I can log on at 5am or at 12 midnight. That part is great and much needed in my life. I also love that students from around the world participate. It is great to hear the differences of organizations/people and it also points out how much the same we are."

- Sharon Brauer

"The entire program in nonprofit management was very, very helpful. I felt
that the greatest benefit was from learning from other students by hearing
of their challenges and successes."

- Jean Mervine

"I have used the information I have gained to make changes in areas I have
direct control over. For other areas, I have shared the info with my supervisor. I enrolled in the program to further my own knowledge and as
part of my grooming/preparation to lead the organization one day. I
selected UIC because the courses closely aligned with my areas of weakness and those of my organization."

- Vikki Pruitt

"The impact has been astounding. I began working in nonprofit orgs. in
summer of 2003 at entry level position. My volunteer leadership work prior
to attending your courses in addition to the knowledge gained from the
courses put me on a fast track. I made the decision to become an
independent contractor specializing in nonprofit management in June of '04.
I am currently under contract to a health foundation on a part-time basis as
their executive director. This enables me to pursue other opportunities,
including other contract positions. I also attended your Mastering
Grantwriting course this past year and was contacted today about a
grantwriting contract. I am successful in my consulting business today, in
large part because of the knowledge gained from the courses I took when
earning my Certificate in Nonprofit Management. Thank you all, especially
Mary Heidcamp!"

- Beth Warner

"It has not only given me a broader set of skills to draw from, but also a
larger experience base b/c of the thoughts and past experiences my
classmates shared during the classes."

- Chang Lee
