Who We Are
The Urban Data Visualization Lab (UDVL) is a research center housed with the Department of Urban Planning and Policy in the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs; however, we work with many different units across campus and across many disciplines. We focus on visualization problem solving, visualization techniques such as mapping and effective data presentation, and the prior data preparation work needed to ensure quality data.
What We Do
We are dedicated to employing various technologies to assist students, faculty, and external public and community agencies with visualization challenges. These challenges are varied and include mapping and geospatial data analysis, assistance with data management and selection, presentation formatting, and communicating data more effectively. Faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff teach courses in visualization and geographic information systems (GIS) to provide students with valuable skills to be competitive job seekers.

Learn more about the Geospatial Analysis and Visualization Certificate Program
The UDVL is affilliated with the Geospatial Analysis and Visualization (GSAV) Certificate program. Staff, adjunct faculty, and faculty teach the courses that comprise the certificate program. Students in the GSAV program learn visualization theory, the effective use of various visualization tools including Adobe products and GIS to produce effective and intuitive presentations, designs, and maps.
