The
Feasibility of a Catering Company: A Proposed Business Venture for Mujeres
Latinas En Accion (MLEA) Project Number:
210 Report Date: 1985 Author(s): Anita Salazar In an effort
to determine the feasibility of a business venture, The University of Illinois
Center for Urban Economic Development (CUED) assisted Mujeres Latinas En Accion
(MLEA) by undertaking a study of a small catering business. The business would
be owned and operated by MLEA to provide job opportunities to its clients, particularly
those having employment constraints. The proposed catering company would feature
Hispanic food and target its service to the Medical Center located on the near
Westside and to the greater Pilsen/Little Village communities. Information
was gathered and analyzed regarding the demand for off-premise catering and the
current competition that exists in these areas. A survey of businesses, churches,
manufacturers and offices in these areas was conducted. CUED also interviewed
existing caterers and franchises about their services and market areas. Based
on this information and general information about the catering industry, CUED
was able to determine the size of the existing demand for off-premise catering
in a given market area, the type of capture potential the proposed business could
have and the revenue potential based on that capture rate. |
