Admission to the degree program requires junior standing, as described below. Recent high school graduates and others with fewer than 60 hours completed should apply for admission to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and specify the Pre-Urban and Public Affairs Advising Track.

In addition to completing the Application for Undergraduate Admission, please contact the UPA Program Office at 312.413.2292 to schedule an interview or participate in a telephone interview.

Admission Requirements

Applicants are considered on an individual basis. Admission to the Urban and Public Affairs degree program is selective and competitive. Specific admission requirements include the following.

  1. Admission to the degree program requires junior standing. At the time of application, students must have at least 44 semester hours of course work completed. Before enrolling in the program, students must have 60 semester hours of course work completed including: a) one course in microeconomics (3 semester hours); b) two courses in English composition (6 semester hours); c) one course in mathematics, logic or statistics (3 semester hours); and d) one course in the natural sciences (3 semester hours).
  2. Students must have a grade point average of 2.75 (A = 4.00) or higher at the time they apply for admission to the program.
  3. A telephone or personal interview is required for admission to the program.
  4. A written statement of academic or professional goals is required for admission to the program.
