UPP Friday Forum

Friday Forum is an occasional lecture series focused on research in Urban Planning and Policy. All lectures take place in Room 110 CUPPA Hall at noon, unless otherwise noted. Light lunch is served. Directions to UPP and travel information are at the bottom of the page. Join us on November 9 for Dr. Teresa Córdova, new Director of CUPPA's Great Cities Institute.

"A Scholarshisp of Engagement: Values Theory and Practice"

Dr. Córdova will present examples of how research and analysis can be applied towards addressing human and social needs. Based on multiple roles with community organizations, as an elected official and as a research center director, she will illustrate how the field of urban planning provides theories, methods and case studies that encourage and inform this connection between scholarship and contributions to society. She will draw examples from her work in economic development, infrastructure (water, sewer, drainage, road improvement), land use, neighborhood development, agricultural preservation, and youth development. She will also set the stage for her new role as Director of the Great Cities Institute to highlight to importance of UIC's urban mission and its Great Cities commitment.

UPP Next: Planning your Master's Project

UPP Next is an occasional series of career development events for MUPP students. The first event of fall semester will bring mentors from the CUPPA alumni and APA state chapter mentoring programs to campus to talk about the benefits of mentoring, introduce students to the two programs and provide information on how to participate.

On October 26, from 12-1 in Room 110 CUPPA Hall, Associate Professor Rachel Weber, together with several recent MUPP graduates, will present on "Planning your Master's Project." We will videotape the presentation for viewing on our website, for the benefit of students who cannot attend.
