What is your academic and work background? What did you do before enrolling in the MUPP program at UIC?
I went to Trinity University in San Antonio TX where I majored in Urban Studies and Business. I also worked at a redevelopment agency for a major park downtown.
What attracted you to planning and made you decide you
wanted to be a planner?
I really liked design, economics, and sociology in college. Urban Planning combines many subjects, including these, to solve major issues that affect a large number of people.
Why did you want to study planning at UIC?
I wanted to study Planning in an Urban setting and loved Chicago when I visited a few years ago.
What are some of the highlights of your time as a student--classes, projects, internships, volunteer involvement?
I have really enjoyed my internship at the Chicago Metropolicatn Agency for Planning, which UIC greatly helped me obtain. I have also loved my time spent as a research assistant at the Urban Transportation Center and being on the Board of UPPSA, it’s great to collaborate with fellow MUPP’s with similar interests because everyone ends up learning more in the end.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself happily employed somewhere that allows me to explore the variety of subjects I am interested in-hopefully in a city.
