What is your academic and work background? What did you do before enrolling in the MUPP program at UIC?
Before enrolling in the MUPP program I completed a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning at Michigan State University with a Specialization in International Development in the Fall of 2010.
What attracted you to planning and made you decide you
wanted to be a planner?
I have always been drawn to planning because it allows you to create well thought out solutions to complex problems that impact society and the environment. Specifically by being a planner I hope to lessen the impact humans have on the natural environment through improvements to the built environment. I am very interested in creating and/or refining solutions to excessive resource consumption, specifically energy.
Why did you want to study planning at UIC?
I chose to study planning at UIC because of the University’s location in the city of Chicago. Through this I have been able to experience the complexity of the city and better understand planning theory and practice.
What are some of the highlights of your time as a student--classes, projects, internships, volunteer involvement?
By studying at UIC I had the opportunity to work in India and that experience was by far the highlight of my time here. I was able to plan in a very unfamiliar environment, which strengthened every aspect of what I understand planning to be.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I hope to be working on responsible resource consumption at the regional scale.
