Administrative functions: Who does what?
Kazuya Kawamura, Head and Associate Professor, is responsible for all aspects of the Department's management. The Head is also available to meet with prospective students. If you need to consult with the Head, you can contact Ann Barnds or Hazel Brown to schedule an appointment.
Kheir Al-Kodmany, Director of Graduate Studies, is responsible for the admissions process and general oversight of student progress. The Director of Graduate Studies typically must sign student petitions, approve requests for waivers, ensures that students successfully meet the internship requirement, and approves Masters Projects.
Ann Barnds, Assistant to the Head for Administration, coordinates the Department's schedule of courses, staffs faculty committees, assists the student organizations, maintains the Department's webpage, coordinates the Department's student travel and financial awards, provides career development assistance to students, and coordinates the Peace Corps Master's International program.
Hazel Brown, Admissions and Records Officer, coordinates the admissions process, maintains student records, provides information to students about the departmental, Graduate College, and University regulations and processes, and prepares student files for approval by the Graduate College prior to graduation.
Wei Liu, Assistant to the Director for Budgeting, is responsible for fiscal management, processes adjunct and faculty HR appointments. She also processes student appointments if students are employed by the Department.
