The Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy (IRRPP) seeks qualified candidates for a full time Associate Director for Operations. The primary functions of the position are: to act on behalf of the Director of IRRPP overseeing the administration and operations of IRRPP.

On behalf of the Director and in concert with staff assigned by the Deans office of the UIC College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA), supervises and administrates the day-to-day operations of IRRPP, including finance and budgeting; research and non-research grants and contracts/subcontracts; HR records, staffing, and termination; research and development; space planning and assignment; safety, security, and building conditions; event planning, fund raising, and community relations; appointment and supervision of students and coordination of academic affairs concerns with their academic programs. As may be assigned, works in the development of partnerships with the policy, research and grassroots community outside and inside UIC to develop programs of assistance and to bring university-produced knowledge to resolve the problems of underrepresented communities. Recommends improvements in operational management, following CUPPA policies establishing guidelines for oversight and administration of accounts. Oversees monitoring of professional and trade journals as well as government publications relative to potential funding opportunities; makes sure that faculty and other members of IRRPP receive the necessary assistance in the preparation of research proposals. Monitors internal (University) and external (sponsor) research regulations and protocols in order to support development of research projects.

Other duties include written and verbal communication at the request of the Director and/or CUPPA on IRRPP personnel recruitment, research, finance and HR activities, including the drafting of annual reports, newsletters, external R&D publications; represents Director in appropriate forums and on CUPPA committees; related activities assigned by the Director; other duties as assigned.

Required: masters degree in public or educational administration, finance and accounting, planning, or related field with relevant experience, and five years experience in administration and management of either university, public or civic organization and in program coordination and budgets. Preferred: Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills; experience in policy related work, fundraising, and work in partnerships including community organizations, government and institutions of high learning; experience with university systems for grants, accounting, and HR.
