Research and Technical Assistance (RTA) Project
The UIC Voorhees Center and the Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) at DOD
Sponsored by the Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) at the Department of Defense (DOD), the Nathalie P. Voorhees Center for Neighborhood and Community Improvement at UIC (Voorhees Center) has been engaged in the Research and Technical Assistance (RTA) project since 2009. The RTA project tracks and analyzes data for over 50 defense communities in the Continental US impacted by defense realignment. The purpose of the RTA project is to provide up to date data and information to communities to help them better plan for and respond to base expansion or downsizing. Data indicators cover topics of local housing markets, economic trends, and human capital. In addition to indicator tracking, the Voorhees Center analyzes trends, authors reports, and provides technical assistance on an ongoing basis.
Tools available to the base communities include:
- Reports - issue briefs on relevant topics that provide a deeper analysis of trends, including our recently released Education Guide and Local Economic Snapshot.
- Data tables - spreadsheets of historical housing market and economic data available to stakeholders for download.
- Mapping - a visualization of current housing and economic data, allowing zooming in on specific communities and zooming out for a regional or national view.
For each community, data, reports and mapping are available on website developed and maintained by the Voorhees Center: http://www.defensecommunitydata.com/
