The MOST Program prepares students and postdoctoral fellows to shape the future of oral health research and clinical care. MOST fellows work with world-class faculty, use cutting-edge technology and explore new directions from the bench to the bedside.

The MOST Program is located on UIC's West Campus, at the heart of a major medical research center and just minutes from downtown Chicago. Our location gives us easy access to a diverse range of cutting-edge research, a diverse patient population and, when we're not working, everything that Chicago has to offer: miles of open lakefront, great culture, dining and sports.

2013 Predental Undergraduate Research Symposium

The Predental Undergraduate Research Symposium is an opportunity for predental undergraduate students who are doing research to present their projects as posters to other predental and dental students. The symposium is run by members of UIC College of Dentistry's Student Research Group and it provides a friendly forum for learning more about research and meeting current dental students and their predental peers at other institutions. The symposium is held at the College of Dentistry and features a faculty keynote speaker.

Our confirmed date for the Predental Undergraduate Research Forum is April 6, 2013. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the uicsrg@gmail.com or longka@uic.edu. We hope to see you there!

Eligibility

All predental students currently enrolled as undergraduates are eligible to present their research. Students whose research is outside the oral health field are welcome to present.

Registration

Registration is due by Friday, March 15th and can be completed with our online registration form. Participants are asked to submit their contact info, the title of the research abstract/poster they will present and the name of their primary research mentor.

Schedule

All events will occur on the 4th floor of the College of Dentistry. The College is located at 801 S. Paulina, Chicago and is easily accessible by the CTA Pink Line (Polk Street Stop).

  • 9:00-9:30am - Welcome and Opening Remarks
  • 9:30-1:30am - Poster Session I
  • 10:35-10:55 - Keynote Address: Dr. Ana Bedran-Russo, Associate Professor and Director, Laboratory of Applied Dental Biomaterials and Interfaces
  • 11:00am-12:00pm - Poster Session II
  • 12:00-1:00pm - Lunch and Question & Answer Session

Keynote Speaker

Bedran-Russo

We are happy to announce that Dr. Anna Bedran-Russo will present the keynote speech this year. Dr. Bedran-Russo's research addresses the very complex structure of the tooth that can be modified over time due to aging and disease process. It is important to understand the biochemical and mechanical properties of the tooth in order to develop reparative/regenerative biomaterials to replace lost tooth structure. Dr. Bedran-Russo's Lab conducts studies to investigate the mechanical and biochemical properties of specific sites in the tooth and also investigates the interface between biomaterials and the tooth structures. Using a biomimetic approach, her group had identified agents that can strengthen the tooth and consequently improve the properties of the tooth and tooth-biomaterials interface. Dr. Bedran-Russo has published over 60 peer-reviewed research articles and 115 research abstracts. Her research studies are supported by federal and institutional research grants. In addition to her research activities, Dr. Bedran-Russo is actively involved in teaching and mentoring pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students. She is currently the President of the Dental Material Group, the largest scientific group with the International Association for Dental Research, serves as standing member member fo NIH study sections, and is reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Dentistry, Dental Material, Biomaterials.
