I chose UIC because it is located in the heart of Chicago. It gave me the opportunity to live in the residence halls and live in a huge city. This institution allows me to interact with individuals from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. UIC has taught me the importance of leadership, networking and embracing diversity.

Name: Alexander Hardaway
Year in School: Freshman
Major: Civil Engineering

I decided to attend UIC because of its many opportunities and because of the low tuition. There are many programs and social events to become apart of and you get a change to meet others from various backgrounds. UIC is very diverse and a great place to network. Furthermore, it is cheaper to attend UIC if a new student is trying to go to an out-of-state school. Lastly, it is located in the heart of Chicago. Every morning I get a chance to see the sunrise above the Sear Towers!

student

Name: Wanda Averhart
Year in School: Graduate Student
Major: Medicine

I chose to come to UIC because it is minutes from downtown and it offers the "big city" experience. The university offers excellent resources available to the students. As a minority and an aspiring doctor, I was very impressed by the range of resources available to me. From tutoring at the African American Academic Network to medical school preparation with the post-baccalaureate program at the college of medicine, I developed into a successful student at UIC. I saw UIC as the stepping stone to helping me accomliosh my many goals.
