We envision the Center as a dynamic hub for information, resources and collaborations, a campus ‘home’ for members of the university community and their guests, and a bridge to other communities and publics.
The AACC engages Diaspora theories and practices as an efficacious framework for the Center’s involvement in diversity related activities and programs. The concept of diaspora illuminates a specific process of community formation that intersects disciplinary boundaries and identity constructions. Diasporic identities are dynamic and transformative, and transcend the practical boundaries of time, space and action. While African Diaspora scholarship, experiences and representations are multi-faceted, Diaspora as a core guiding principle simultaneously focuses and maximizes opportunities for meaningful collaboration.
